AT&T Corp. and two of its subsidiaries – AT&T Arkansas Inc. and AT&T Advanced Solutions – are the No. 1 local telecommunications companies in Northwest Arkansas. AT&T Corp. had $485.7 million in 2008 revenue, nearly seven times more than its nearest Arkansas competitor, Windstream Corp.

The Business Journal annually ranks local and interexchange telecommunications companies.

According to the Public Service Commission, AT&T had 221,698 business lines in Arkansas and 395,000 residential lines.

The eight local exchange carriers on this year’s list had combined revenue in 2008 of $1.08 billion, which was down about 2.6 percent from 2007.

The total number of lines those carriers had in 2008 decreased more than 5 percent to 1.66 million. The number reflects each carrier’s total lines within the state.

Cox Arkansas Telecom LLC, which was inadvertently omitted on last year’s list, saw a 108 percent increase in its annual revenue from 2007 to 2008.
