Academy Store Apparently Coming To Rogers

Academy Sports + Outdoors is coming to Rogers.

That much was evident when a recent published report indicated the Rogers Planning Commission approved a large-scale development plan for the regional retailer that’s headquartered in Katy, Texas. Nevertheless, a day later, an Academy spokeswoman offered the following middle-of-the-road statement:

“We have been looking at the area for a long time, but as of right now, we don’t own any property there,” she said.

Maybe, but we expect that to change in the near future. From what we’re told, Academy will build a 70,000-SF store behind the Walgreens located near the Pleasant Grove exit.

Academy sells everything from bolt-action rifles to basketball shoes, and pretty much everything in between. It’s a privately owned company that operates 120 stores in a region that covers all of the Southeastern Conference states, plus Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri.

The spokeswoman said Academy has opened about 10 new stores this year. With stores already in Little Rock, Sherwood and Fort Smith, we fully expect one of the next additions to be in Rogers.
