Hanna’s Candle Co., which sells its scented products to the likes of Wal-Mart and K-Mart, said when it hired Ross Systems Inc. of Atlanta, it thought it was getting state-of-art software that would improve business, according to a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Fayetteville.

After the software project started, “it became apparent that Ross failed to deliver the software system it had demonstrated and promised during the sales process,” Hanna’s said in the lawsuit.

Hanna’s bought the program for $455,740, and, as of Oct. 12, had spent $642,000 and has been billed for another $129,000, the lawsuit said.

It is suing for deceit and deceptive trade practices and is seeking an unspecified amount of money. A spokesperson for the company couldn’t be reached for comment.
