Dr. Scotty Bolding with Fayetteville-based U.S. Health Record says there are significant savings to be squeezed from the nation’s health care system, especially if the right technologies are used.

Bolding, in an interview with Roby Brock at TalkBusiness.net, said his company has developed an electronic health records system that reaches the “functional layer” between the patient and doctor while also connecting with various medical facilities statewide. The concern, according to Bolding, is that the vast amounts of federal stimulus funds directed to finding cost savings in health record keeping will not be sustainable. The more than $19 billion in federal dollars, for example, could get programs started without a financial model that allows them to continue.

A “wise” mix of technology and stimulus funding will result in sustainable, long-term results, Bolding said. He said a well-designed health records system could potentially save the Arkansas medical community as much as $1.6 billion a year.
