The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith volleyball team extended its winning streak to 10 matches on Thursday night with a four-set win against the Texas Woman’s University Pioneers.
UAFS won the match 25-17, 25-23, 19-25, 25-10 to win its first-ever encounter with Texas Woman’s University, which is a member of the Lone Star Conference.
The Lady Lions (22-3) haven’t lost since Sept. 21 when they lost in four sets on the road against Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant. The only other losses for the UAFS team were against Drury University and Truman State University.
Junior Fabiane Nass of Santa Catarina, Brazil, and sophomore Jettie Stec of Fort Smith were a tough tandem for the Pioneers to shut down. Nass collected a career-high 20 kills, and Stec had a season-high 15 kills to pace the Lady Lions.
Junior Lucia Najselova of Nitra, Slovakia, had a season-high 50 assists and served four of the team’s nine aces, and sophomore Heidi Luks of Tallinn, Estonia, had 15 digs to lead a quartet of Lady Lions with double-digit digs.
The Lady Lions will travel to Siloam Springs, Ark., on Friday for a tri-match at John Brown University. UA Fort Smith will play John Brown at 3 p.m. and Evangel College at 5 p.m.
