A little weary from a long road trip on Thursday night to Denton, Texas, the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith volleyball team still kept their winning streak alive on Friday afternoon with a pair of wins against John Brown University and Evangel College.
UAFS (24-3) beat host John Brown 20-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-17 and beat Evangel 25-12, 25-16, 25-21 to extend its winning streak to 12 consecutive matches.
Sophomore Jettie Stec of Fort Smith and junior Fabiane Nass of Santa Catarina, Brazil, delivered a near-repeat of their offensive performance from Thursday’s four-set win against Texas Woman’s University in the opening match against John Brown.
Stec, who had a season-high 15 kills against TWU, led UAFS with 14 kills, while Nass, who had a career-high 20 kills against TWU, had 13 kills. Sophomore Heidi Luks of Tallinn, Estonia, also had 13 kills, two blocks and four block assists.
Luks and sophomore Keely Rivera of Baytown, Texas, each had 16 digs to lead the Lady Lions, while junior Lucia Najselova of Nitra, Slovakia, had 46 assists.
Against Evangel College, Luks led an otherwise balanced attack with 17 kills. Najselova had 32 assists, while Rivera had 12 digs.
UAFS will return to action on Tuesday when it hosts Oklahoma City University at 7 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center. It will be the Lady Lions’ final home match of the season.
