Arkansas 23 north of Ozark down to one lane
One of the prime Arkansas roads on which to travel and enjoy the fall colors will be down to one lane at two spots for “an extended period of time,” according to the Arkansas Highway & Transportation Department.
The Arkansas 23 repair work is ongoing at a spot about 18 miles north of Interstate 40, with northbound and southbound lanes using Yield signs. When that patch of road is complete, workers will move about 1.5 miles north on Arkansas 23 to fix another spot.
“The work is expected to continue for several months,” advised the AHTD statement. “Motorists will encounter message boards and signing prior to the work sites and are urged to use caution when approaching the construction and to be prepared to stop and yield to oncoming traffic.
Heavy rains in early 2008 resulted in soils supporting the slope downhill of the highway to become unstable. AHTD awarded a $2.5 million contract to Little Rock-based Kesser International of Little Rock in August 2009 for the repair work.
