Advertising Age magazine named Rockfish Interactive of Rogers its Small Agency of the Year for 2009 on Sept. 14.

It’s the first time Ad Age,a national trade publication for those in the advertising business, has made a special nod for small agencies. The category was limited to agencies with fewer than 75 employees and was judged by the magazine’s editorial team.

In its Editor’s Note, the magazine writes: But even in its first year the list “has served its primary purpose: to help Ad Age uncover some of the great but not enormous agencies that too rarely get recognition, and to celebrate some of their best work, which rarely seems to make it through the big awards-show machinery.”

Principals at Rockfish also develop other companies and technologies that drive those companies. Rockfish owns and operates Silver Joe’s, a specialty coffee company; Fourthbook.com, Web-based software for church management; CrazyHotJob.com, a single national posting of a job; and MindofMoms.com, a social media community that connects mom bloggers and other companies.

r

“Because Rockfish launches our own ventures and companies, we face the same marketing decisions our clients do, like which investments achieve the most effective marketing solutions and digital strategies,” said Kenny Tomlin, founder and CEO of the company in a press release.

Rockfish was the No. 2 firm on the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal’s annual list of top marketing firms in the area. The list is ranked by number of employees, which was 55 as of mid-July.
