September Art Exhibit

The Fort Smith Art Center invites the public to a the September exhibit highlighting work by Charles Peer.

Mr. Peer lives in Siloam Springs, Arkansas and his exhibit, titled ‘Views From the Journey: Making Familiar Things New and New Things Familiar’, opens with a reception from 5-7 p.m. on September 3rd, with gallery talk to be held at 5:00 p.m.

His pastel paintings explore his interest and love of color and he states that “I have a particular interest in color combinations that create a richness of surface or that make a painting ‘sing’. Each painting is an adventure to find the right color combinations to relate to the view the sense of a special time and place.”

The photography exhibit will feature works by Janet Lyle in the Stairwell Gallery. The work of Bradley Martin and Cindy Gilmore will exhibit in the Upstairs Gallery.

Both the reception on Thursday, August 6th from 5-7 pm and month-long exhibit are free of charge and the public is invited.

Fort Smith Art Center is located at 423 North Sixth Street in the Belle Grove Historic District of downtown Fort Smith, a few blocks north of Garrison Avenue. The Art Center has been open since 1961. Its mission is to showcase the visual arts and to foster appreciation of all art for all people. Regular open hours are Thursday through Saturday from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. The Art Center’s Gift Gallery showcases the work of over 100 different artists, including pottery, jewelry, glassware, garden art, photographs and paintings at a range of prices. The Fort Smith Art Center is supported in part by grants from the city of Fort Smith and the Arkansas Arts Council, a division of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
