Those attending the Northwest Arkansas Business Women’s Conference should get a kick out of the keynote speaker.

Mia Hamm, a former soccer player who was part of U.S. teams that won two Olympic gold medals and two Women’s World Cup titles, will be the featured speaker at the Sept. 15 event. The conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the John Q. Hammons Convention Center in Rogers.

“The last five or six years we’ve been able to bring in some pretty high-profile names, and Mia certainly fits that,” said Krista Khone, Bentonville/Bella Vista Chamber of Commerce Vice President of Special Projects and Leadership. “What she’s going to talk about is a really good fit not only with our community, but with what the conference tries to promote.”

And that message is?

“She’s going to talk about how one person can make a difference,” Khone said, adding that Hamm will include some of her personal background and life experiences during her address. “She’s going to talk about how everybody has something to give back, something that can touch a community or individuals within the community.”

Other speakers at the 11th annual event will include Cynthia Trudell and Esther Silver-Parker, senior vice presidents at PepsiCo and Wal-Mart, respectively. Both companies, along with Mercy Health System of NWA, are sponsors of the conference.
