Fort Smith, Little Rock bridge lane closures scheduled

Routine maintenance on the Interstate 540 bridge over the Arkansas River between Fort Smith and Van Buren will require lane closures.

According to the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, the work will begin Aug. 18 and conclude Aug. 20. Work will begin on the northbound, outside lane and then move to the southside, outside lane. The lanes will be closed between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. during the days of work. Weather, of course, could change the work schedule.

For those traveling to Little Rock, routine inspection will close lanes on the Interstate 440 bridge over the Arkansas River between Little Rock and North Little Rock.

Inspections will begin Aug. 19 and conclude Aug. 20. The work will begin with the eastbound, outside lane and then move to the westbound, outside lane. The lanes will be closed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. during the work days.
