Arkansas’ new lottery effort is off to a bad start, according to poll results from the Talk Business Quarterly Poll.

The new poll was conducted through a partnership with Roby Brock, and Little Rock-based political consulting groups The Political Firm and The Markham Group. Brock and his TalkBusiness.net is a content partner with The City Wire.

Following are results from the two lottery-related questions in the poll.

Do you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of the Arkansas Lottery?
Strongly favorable: 28%
Somewhat favorable: 21%
Somewhat unfavorable: 8%
Strongly unfavorable: 32%
No Opinion: 9%
Don’t know: 2%

Do you agree or disagree that a salary of $300,000 per year for the state lottery director is too high?
Strongly agree: 71%
Somewhat agree: 10%
Somewhat disagree: 8%
Strongly disagree: 9%
Don’t know: 2%

Poll results were gained from a telephone survey of 600 likely Arkansas voters, meaning they voted in at least 2 of the last 4 general elections. Congressional district breakouts are fairly even (1st – 24%; 2nd – 26%; 3rd – 26%; 4th – 24%). The margin of error is +/- 3.99%, and the survey was conducted from July 13-15, 2009.

Talk Business will trickle out a few advance questions from the poll before the next magazine issue of Talk Business Quarterly, which is just weeks from publication. The next poll topic in the Talk Business Quarterly Poll release is: “Where do Arkansans get their news?” Brock says the results will surprise.
