UAFS senior officer to tour Japan
Dr. Ray Wallace of Fort Smith, provost and senior vice chancellor at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, has been selected as a participant on a forthcoming tour of Japanese educational, governmental and international business venues, according to a statement from the UAFS.
Wallace joins 15 other U.S. educators and administrators beginning June 28 for a 12-day visit to various Japanese cities. Sponsored by the Japan Foundation and the Japanese government, the tour allows participants to explore how new links between the U.S. and Japan, both educational and commercial, can be developed.
Of his many activities during the trip, Wallace will meet with several multi-national company executives with interests in exploring additional Japanese/American links and relationships.
Wallace, who came to UAFS in 2007, “maintains a national reputation as a scholar in the fields of teaching writing and second language acquisition and contributes regularly to scholarly publications,” according to the UAFS statement. He has been working, with others at the UA Fort Smith campus, to provide more opportunities for UA Fort Smith students to study overseas and to learn more about other cultures.
He helped design the new Maymester academic term at the university, where students were able to travel to international destinations to study in their fields. Maymester ventures included a trip to Uganda and one to Trinidad and Tobago.
