Montana Tractors in Springdale is closing its doors on South Thompson Avenue and moving operations to Tarboro, NC.

In a letter to dealers, co-owner Ted Wade said the company plans to move all production, service, parts and logistical assets to Tarboro no later than July 30.

A few essential administrative staff, accounting personnel and sales support will remain in Springdale for now, he said.

Montana Tractors started in 2004, backed by the late J.B. Hunt, Charlie Goforth and Dan Downing.

In December 2008, the company bought Farmtrac North America’s assets in Tarboro, including plant, property and equipment. Since then the company has been studying the capacity of those assets.

The company will have the ability at the new plant to manufacture loaders and backhoes. The plant will also be closer to suppliers, which will save on the cost of transporting imported equipment.
