The Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting has announced the establishment of a new chapter.

The Northwest Arkansas chapter is ALPFA’s 36th chapter in the United States and will add to the membership base of 8,800.

Adam Arroyos, corporate affairs director at Wal-Mart Stores Inc., will serve as the president of the new chapter.

Arroyos said the chapter was launched to support the efforts in recruitment and retention of Latino talent in Northwest Arkansas.

“This is a very attractive part of the country for many people and particularly for the Latino community,” he said. “We want to make sure we have the opportunity to connect those Latino professionals and give them the ability to network and develop their careers and ALPFA has a history of doing just that.”

The organization has evolved so much over the years, Arroyos said, that the board of directors is considering changing the name to include other professions in addition to accounting and finance.

The ALPFA Northwest Arkansas Chapter will initially be led by local area representatives from Crossland Construction, Ernst & Young, Northwest Arkansas Community College, Tyson Foods Inc., University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences–Arkansas Heath Education Centers, University of Arkansas, State Farm and Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

The board will be working on developing networking and professional development events throughout the year, Arroyos said.
