UAFS announces faculty award winners

The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith announced Friday that Don Bailey of Fort Smith received the Master Teacher Award; Nancy Stockall of Fayetteville received a Lucille Speakman Excellence Award; and Peter Cullum of Sallisaw, received the Luella M. Krehbiel Award.

Bailey, associate professor of music and director of jazz studies, joined the UAFS teaching staff in 1985, and previously received the Excellence in Teaching Award in 1987 and 1989, and the National Teaching Excellence Award in a study conducted by the University of Texas. He was also the recipient of the Mayor’s Honors for the Visual and Performing Arts Award in 2007. The recipient of the Master Teacher Award receives $2,000.

Stockall, an associate professor in early childhood education in the College of Education, joined UAFS in 2003. Stockall has been active in making numerous academic presentations across the United States and abroad. She has written chapters in seven books, has had articles and abstracts in 16 journals and has presented papers before 40 professional societies. The Speakman Award is named for a longtime teacher, administrator and Board of Trustees member, the late Lucille Speakman. Recipients receive a $1,000 monetary award as well as a $2,000 equipment allocation.

Cullum has two roles at the UAFS, senior graphic designer for the Marketing and Communications Office, where he has worked since 2004, and an adjunct faculty member. Cullum began teaching part time at the UAFS in 2003. Cullum is a member of the American Advertising Federation – Fort Smith chapter, formerly called the Greater Fort Smith Ad Club. He is the recipient of three ADDY awards, including a Gold ADDY for illustration in 2009. The Kreibiel Award winner receives a $1,000 award.
