The Town Club held an open house reception Thursday night (April 23) as part of an effort to boost membership and to introduce Club Chef and General Manager Engin Tuncay to the public.

Dr. Kelly Graham, president of the Town Club board of directors, introduced Tuncay to the reception crowd, saying the new chef and general manager represents good change for the club.

Tuncay, born in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1952, came to the United States in 1969 when Holiday Inn hired him as their food & beverage director and Inn Keeper. In 1979, Tuncay began working as a club manager for the Racquet Club of Memphis. Tuncay earned his culinary degree in Cannes, France, under Master Chef Roger Verge in 1986, and received a degree from the Cordon Bleu Cooking School in Paris.

Tuncay also has been appointed to be in charge of all food and beverage operation during the Fort Smith Classic in June.

On the job since October, Tuncay said he is eager to be part of the community.

“I like this place, and the downtown is really growing,” Tuncay said.
