It was 9 p.m. and the drinks were flowing, the music was pumping, the asses were shaking, friends were laughing and the Harleys’ were revving. It was a downtown urban environment as it should be. It was fun, fellowship, flirting and hell yeah! all poured under one roof.

And it just happened to be downtown Fort Smith and the VIP opening of Bill Neumeier’s Rib Room at 817 Garrison Ave.

The more than $500,000 project to create a unique music, entertainment and dining venue on Garrison Avenue welcomed its first crowd Thursday night (April 30) with remarks from Fort Smith Mayor Ray Baker and a high-energy performance from The Klocks — a San Antonio based group — that included cover tunes of everything from the Bee Gees to Michael Jackson to AC/DC.

“This is just an example of what (downtown) Fort Smith could be be with the right type of economic growth,” said Bennie Westphal, a downtown property owner and prominent Fort Smith businessman.
