Mercy Health System of Northwest Arkansas is launching a Cardiac CT program that will utilize diagnostic imaging technology at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers.

With a 64-slice Cardiac CT, physicians will be able to examine high-resolution cross sections of the heart to find and diagnose heart disease.

Dr. Larry Weathers, a cardiologist at Mercy, and Dr. Glenn Chitwood, a radiologist at Mercy, are co-chairing the program.

“Mercy’s patients will greatly benefit from the Cardiac CT program,” Weathers said. “The technology we are using is the best in the industry.”

Sudden cardiac death is one of Weather’s chief concerns.

“In 1957, 50 percent of all heart attacks presented with sudden cardiac death,” he said. “It was still 50 percent in 2007.”

The 64-slice Cardiac CT will enable Mercy physicians to diagnose heart disease earlier and draw on solutions to combat the disease, including lifestyle modification, medication and surgery.

Weathers recently became the first physician in Northwest Arkansas, and the second in the state, to receive Level 3 credentials through the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.
