The owners and staff of The City Wire hosted a party Thursday (Mar. 12) night for many of the early supporters of The City Wire.

Held at a meeting room at the Riverpark in Harry E. Kelley Park in downtown Fort Smith, the event included a presentation by Tom Kirkham about changes in communication, the beginnings of the The City Wire and its planned progress.

“Only with the Internet could we create a community dialogue that works practically for everyone,” Kirkham, a co-owner of The City Wire, noted in his comments to the gathered audience. “At work, home, on the beach, or in a restaurant, you can engage in dialogue on the Internet. Never before have we had the ability to have frictionless conversations between everyone in the world, or in our case, the community.”

Kirkham also noted that the number of visitors — visits between November 2008 and projected through March 2009 — to The City Wire more than doubles every 60 days. And according to research by The City Wire, 76% of visitors are in the 36-65 age range, with 67% of the visitors earning more than $75,000 a year.

“We have a simple goal moving forward. The City Wire will embrace the digital world to inform, entertain and engage our audience and our community,” Kirkham said.

The City Wire appreciates the generosity of Post Familie Vineyards (Paul Post), Platinum Distributing (Terry Weidman) and Empire Liquor (Lance Beaty) in supporting the event.
