Fort Smith-based Arkansas Best Corp. was recently awarded the 2008 Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation Award in the large business category by the Arkansas Community Foundation.

“Arkansas Best is in the business of generating a profit for our shareholders, but we believe strongly that supporting and enriching our community enhances that role,” Bob Davidson, Arkansas Best President and CEO, noted in his acceptance remarks.

Arkansas Best is the parent company of ABF Freight System, one of the largest less-than-truckload carriers in the nation.

Organizations the company supports include The United Way, Fort Smith Public Schools Partner-In-Education program, and the Arkansas Foodbank Network.

Arkansas Community Foundation has more than $104 million in assets and has provided more than $62 million in grants since it began operation in 1976. Arkansas Community Foundation has the capacity to engage communities in a thoughtful exploration of critical issues and can help assemble the resources to implement solutions.  Contributions to ARCF, its funds and any of its 26 local affiliate offices are fully tax deductible.
