Forty Under 40: Jeffrey T. Borgsmiller
As a kid who loved structures, Jeff Borgsmiller naturally gravitated toward the construction field.
He got a degree in civil engineering from the University of Colorado in 1993, then a master’s in structural engineering from Virginia Tech in 1995.
Borgsmiller went to work for a bridge design firm in Chicago for five years before deciding he liked the construction side better than design. He switched to working for general contractors.
In 2005 Borgsmiller relocated to Northwest Arkansas. When he and his wife began to have children, the pair wanted to move closer to her family. Borgsmiller was also being recruited by CDI.
The University of Arkansas has been his largest client while he’s been at CDI. Managing those projects to the university’s satisfaction has been his biggest achievement.
“Being part of the team that brings those projects in on time and under budget, so they come back and ask for more work, has been very rewarding,” he said.
In the future, Borgsmiller, 38, said he hopes to help build CDI and expand the company’s role in the entire mid-south region. His drive for success comes from within.
“I’m not going to do anything that I don’t think is done 110 percent,” he said. “Doing something that exceeds expectations is what drives me.”
