More than 260 employees at Superior Industries in Fayetteville and Rogers were laid off, and both plants will be idled through Jan. 11. The auto supplier company confirmed produces wheels for automotive manufacturers.

Company officials said the move was directly related to automotive manufacturer plant shutdowns announced this week by Chrysler and Ford.

The company recently closed its Pittsburg, Kan., plant, which produced its last wheel just this past week.  In June, the company said it employed about 1,600 workers in its northwest Arkansas plants.

Tenaris Hickman, an industrial tube and pipe company, will lay off 150 workers at its Mississippi County facility, according to a report from the Jonesboro Sun. It is one of the largest employers in the region and the layoffs will impact around 10 percent of the local workforce.

Officials with Tenaris Hickman said the layoffs were caused by an increase in Chinese imports, as well as issues in the energy industry.
