Garland Center Under Construction on U of A Campus (Real Deals)

Baldwin & Shell Construction Co. of Little Rock recently broke ground on a $39 million parking garage and retail center on the University of Arkansas campus.

Garland Center will be constructed on the east side of Garland Avenue between Cleveland and Douglas streets.

The center will include a 1,500-space garage and 20,000 SF of retail space. A 30,000-SF bookstore will be constructed in a separate building just north of the garage.

Baldwin & Shell Co. is the general contractor on the project.

Herbert Lewis Kruse Blunck Architecture of Des Moines, Iowa, and Amirmoez Foster Hailey Johnson of Fayetteville are the architects on the project.

Garland Center will have six levels, three levels will be underground. The retail spaces, which will include a computer store, a school supplies store and a Razorback shop, will be along Garland Avenue and the bookstore will front Douglas Street.

The center is projected to open in August 2010.

Roth Builds Fayetteville Home

Roth Custom Homes recently purchased five building permits valued at a combined $1.03 million to build single-family homes in the Embry Acres subdivision of Fayetteville. The homes will be located at 3720, 3760, 3771, 3797, and 3827 E. Embry Dr.  

The four-bedroom, two-bath homes will be about 2,200 SF on lot sizes that are about 80 feet by 130 feet.

The homes will range in price from $215,000 to $220,000.

Amenities will include full brick exteriors, granite countertops and custom cabinets.

Squires Purchase Elm Springs Home

Bob Dean and Myra Kay Squires recently purchased a 5,095-SF home in Elm Springs from Gary Don and Ariana Langford for $985,000. The home at 14201 Ball Rd. in the Oak Alley Estates subdivision is two stories and sits on 10 acres. The home was built in 2005.

It features a fireplace and a swimming pool. The property also contains a barn with three stables and an office.

The Langfords purchased the land in 2003 from Carpenter Construction.

Hometown Builds Multifamily Units

Hometown Development Ltd. recently purchased two building permits valued a combined $813,168 to build two multi-family units in Fayetteville.

A 5,472-SF building at 2624 N. Valencia Ave. will include four units. Another building of the same size at 2626 N. Arroyo Ave. will also include four dwellings.

Sixth Street Retail Under Construction

C.R. Crawford Construction of Fayetteville recently purchased a building permit valued at $550,000 to build a retail center at the northwest corner of West Sixth Street and Camellia Lane in Fayetteville.

The 16,500-SF retail center will include a 7,318-SF liquor store and 80 parking spaces.

H2 Engineering Inc. of Fayetteville is the civil engineer on the project.
