Baldor project tops weekly building permit report (Updated!)

For all of October, the city of Fort Smith issued 644 permits with a construction value of $16.2 million. The city collected $95,791 in fees on the permits.
The big activity, in terms of action and dollars, is in residential and commercial repairs resulting from the hail and wind damage from spring and early summer storms. According to the city’s report, there were 487 permits issued for residential repair totaling $3.54 million. There were 519 total permits issued in the residential category, meaning that almost 94 percent of all residential permits were for repair.
In the commercial construction category, the city issued 78 permits with a value of $9.72 million. Of that, a little more than $6.38 million was for commercial repair work.

Fort Smith city officials issued more than 239 permits for projects valued at $6.31 million in the last week of October.
The bulk of those permits were for the continued renovations following the spring and summer storms. In the residential building sector, 192 permits for more than $1.63 million in construction were issued. Of those 192 permits, only four were for new construction.
On the commercial construction side, the city issued 27 permits for projects valued at around $4.35 million. The bulk of that was for a $2.5 million expansion project at Baldor Electric Co.
