Fisher Headlines Vendors Tourney
The 12th annual Vendors FORE Education golf tournament will feature Indy Car driver Sarah Fisher talking about her auto racing experiences July 18 at Stonebridge Meadows in Fayetteville.
The tournament funds scholarships through the University of Arkansas Center for Retailing Excellence and has raised more than $43,000 since 2002. The goal for the 2008 30-team, four-man scramble is $20,000 according to tournament organizer Erick Wolff of E-Wolff Sales Solutions Inc. in Bentonville.
Firestone Complete Auto Care brought Fisher to Northwest Arkansas as her main sponsor and as board member of the CRE.
“Her passion and determination in auto racing is an inspiration to us all,” said CRE managing director Claudia Mobley.
Firestone is a sponsor of the tournament along with Hunter & Michaels, a supplier recruiting firm in Bentonville, Bayer Health Care and Sharp Signs.
Fisher was the third female and one of the youngest drivers ever at 19 to compete in the Indianapolis 500. Fans voted her the Indy Racing League’s most popular driver for four seasons. She announced in February that she would take on double duty as a driver and owner of Sarah Fisher Racing.
Fisher, who finished 30th in this year’s Indy 500 after crashing, will also be appearing at the Firestone Complete Auto Care location in Rogers from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on July 18.
The Vendors FORE Education tournament began in 1996 as a social gathering for the vendor community and a means of building relationships but has since evolved to provide financial assistance for university students at the CRE.
