Forty Under 40: Nick Allen
Nick Allen, 26, has made the most of his short time as vice president of his family’s business.
In late 2006, he helped Allens Inc. enter the frozen vegetable business with an acquisition that added six frozen food plants and an extensive line of frozen vegetables and specialty foods.
The acquisition led to the creation of Allens’ frozen brand and proved to be a significant learning experience for Allen.
Being younger makes decisions a little more challenging but at the same time more exciting, said Allen, who enjoys spending time with his wife and one-year old daughter.
Growing up, Allen was given the opportunity to experience many aspects of the business and made the decision to work for the firm on his own.
Allen graduated from the University of Arkansas with a business degree in 2004. He then went to work in Allens’ financial department while completing the executive education program through the University of Chicago’s graduate school of business.
Allen, who works alongside his father and brother, said his main focus is helping his company grow through responsible and sustainable initiatives.
“Being the fourth generation of the business is motivating and working with my family makes me want to be successful,” he said.
