Forty Under 40: Joy Heuer
A love for community carried over from New Mexico to Springdale for Joy Heuer, 32.
She graduated with a degree in business administration from the University of New Mexico before taking a job with the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce.
Heuer joined the Springdale Chamber of Commerce as events director in 2002 and was promoted to vice president of programs and services before taking her current position in 2007.
“I fell in love with the chamber business,” she said. “It was a natural fit. I love what it stands for and what we do.”
Heuer has seen a number of projects through from concept to groundbreaking in the last three years, most notably the addition of Duralor to the Springdale Technology Park and the $33 million Arvest Ballpark.
The Springdale Chamber shepherded the entire process of the Wichita Wranglers’ move to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, from getting the bond proposal passed by just 13 votes to the team debut this April.
Heuer, who loves Nebraska Cornhusker football, golf and calls cleaning her hobby, recently earned her IOM designation from the Institute of Organizational Management. She would like to run her own chamber someday.
“That’s what I’m working toward right now,” she said. “When someone says I can’t, I will. I have a self-drive to do the best job I can.”
