Forty Under 40: Burt Box
Many people struggle to understand and manage one business; Burt Box, 29, spends his days overseeing many businesses in different industries.
In 2005, Box, his father and mother started Milver Investment Co. Box, who moved from Dallas to Fayetteville to attend the University of Arkansas, was charged with managing the company’s daily operations.
The partnership started small, buying and flipping foreclosed properties in Northwest Arkansas. A year later the pair purchased American Milling Co.
Box said he and his father ran the mill for a year before ceasing operations to start a condo project in the building.
The duo enjoyed running a small business so they decided to invest in additional enterprises. They now own a solid waste company in Gentry, are invested in a high-end clothing company in Little Rock, and a cabinet company and a real estate development company, both in Fayetteville.
Box said the learning curve for his job has been steep but that he enjoys the fast-paced nature of the work.
Box said he sets and reviews his goals daily, weekly, monthly and annually.
“Things will get in the way and you need to have a mindset of how you will get around them,” Box said.
Box’s father, who still lives in Dallas, has been his biggest professional influence.
