‘Superbad’ Sales Suspended by Honolulu Mayor
Apparently Hawaiians don’t say “mahalo” to movies that spoof their driver’s licenses.
Honolulu’s mayor asked Wal-Mart Stores Inc. to pull special edition copies of the irreverent teen comedy “Superbad” from its shelves after learning the DVDs include a replica of the main character’s fake ID, a Hawaiian driver’s license inscribed only with the name “McLovin.”
Wal-Mart removed Superbad from its seven Hawaiian stores.
The mayor said the fake IDs sent “the wrong message” and could encourage underage drinking or be used to fool merchants. State authorities even went so far as to notify the Department of Homeland Security about the “McLovin” licenses.
Good grief, mayor. It must be nice when your biggest civic issues are movie props and drunk-driving cast members of the TV show “Lost.” At least they have “Dog the Bounty Hunter” to keep everyone in line.
