The Southwest Times Record of Fort Smith narrowly edged out the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for the top spot among local media Web sites according to Internet traffic source alexa.com.

As of July 25, the Times Record ranked No. 261,147 among U.S. Web sites.

The D-G and its Northwest Arkansas Web site nwanews.com, which includes content from the Northwest Arkansas Times and the Benton County Daily Record, was ranked 262,121.

The traffic rank is based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and is a combined measure of page views and users (reach).

Alexa computes the reach and number of page views for all sites on the Web on a daily basis. The main Alexa traffic rank is based on the geometric mean of these two quantities averaged over time.

True to its promos, KHOG/KHBS-TV, Channels 40/29 is the top local television site with a U.S. rank of 427,246, two and three times better, respectively, than rivals KFSM-TV, Channel 5 and KNWA-TV, Channel 51.

The statewide D-G site, arkansasonline.com, had a ranking of 176,219.

The No. 1 media Web site in the state, however, belongs to arkansasbusiness.com, which hosts the content for Arkansas Business and the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal. The site is ranked 134,435 in U.S. Internet traffic.
