Springdale celebrated the ground breaking on Feb. 28 for its new baseball stadium.
The stadium needs to be ready for opening day on April 1, 2008. The goal for substantial completion, when it would be able to host a game, is March 15, 2008.
Crossland Construction Co. was awarded the dirt work contract with a bid of $1.54 million. To accommodate for the tight deadline, Crossland has been granted an extended working time from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Springdale has only awarded one contract. Contracts for constructing the parking lot and street improvements will be advertised in April and awarded in May. Construction of the stadium itself, plus the scoreboard and concession stands will be advertised near the end of April and awarded in early June.
The 6,500-seat stadium will be the new home of the yet-to-be-named Class AA Kansas City Royals’ affiliate team, which is playing its last year as the Wichita (Kan.) Wranglers.
Springdale has approved $48.09 million for the construction of the new stadium. The total funds available are actually $50.94 million, but the city has budgeted a reserve of $2.8 million.
