Developer Paul Myer, owner of Upscale Companies LLC of Fairview, Texas, has added a convention center to the plans for his $100 million Myers Ranch project on Dodson Road in Rogers.
The 28,000-SF convention center will include about 11,000 SF to 12,000 SF of actual meeting space. It will be two stories on the west side of the planned 155-room Sheridan hotel that’s on Lot 3 of the 18.47-acre project. Construction on the Sheridan, which is part of Starwoods Hotels & Resorts Inc. of White Plains, N.Y., is expected to begin in July.
Myer hopes to put the naming rights of the convention center and the 20 meeting rooms up for bid.
“With all the corporate vendors and companies in Northwest Arkansas, I am going to be seeking a lawyer who can figure this naming rights stuff out and how to market it to the companies and the public,” Myer said.
Myer doesn’t see a competition conflict with the nearby Hammons Convention Center.
“The convention center isn’t going to be able to take in every date and will have some overflow,” Myer said. “The whole market study showed that it was beneficial to the hotel and the demand was there for it.”
Myer hasn’t sold any of the commercial space around the hotel, but is working to bring at least one or two more hotels to the location to “improve synergy.”
