Former Razorbacks and St. Louis Cardinals catcher Tom Pagnozzi has inquired into possibly purchasing On Deck, a batting cage facility that has been closed on Zion Road in Fayetteville.
But with the asking price between $2.1 million and $2.3 million, Pagnozzi and his group of investors have decided to balk. Pagnozzi, who has been an investor for seven years in a similar batting cage facility in Arizona, said to operate the business at that purchase price wouldn’t be feasible.
“It would have to come down a lot,” Pagnozzi said. “If it gets to an area where it’s viable, then maybe we’ll be interested. I’ve got a number in my mind and, right now, they’re not even in the ballpark.”
The owner of On Deck, Charles H. “Chuck” Calloway, has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, listing $1.9 million in debt and $934,000 in assets. He also ran other businesses, including a Cinnabon-Carvel Ice Cream shop in the Northwest Arkansas Mall and Calloway Investments LLC, which handled new home construction.
Calloway also reported that 12 lawsuits are pending against him and his companies.
