Tyson Claims Victory In Wage Dispute
A federal jury in Philadelphia ruled in favor of poultry producer Tyson Foods Inc. in a wage dispute involving more than 500 workers, the Springdale-based company said on June 21.
Seven of the company’s workers at a New Holland, Pa., poultry complex filed suit in 2000, claiming the company failed to pay them for time spent putting on hairnets, smocks and other protective equipment before and after shifts and breaks. About 540 current and former workers joined the suit.
After a two-week trial, the jury ruled the activities don’t count as work, and the court ruled in Tyson’s favor, the company said.
The New Holland facility employs more than 1,100 workers.
