Shogun to Open on Dickson

Shogun Steak House will open a fourth location at 313 Dickson St. in Fayetteville. The building was leased to Benson’s Bar & Cue, which closed earlier this year.

Iwa Rhee, general manager of the new location, said the 4,000-SF building is undergoing some renovations and will be open by early September.

The new Shogun will offer fine dining and a food and sushi bar. No decision has been made on prices, Rhee said. The restaurant will seat 115 diners and have about 20 employees.

Two restaurants have tried to make the Dickson spot a successful location in recent years. Big Daddy’s Sports Bar and Grill closed in January last year, and Benson’s called it quits a year later.

Shogun owner John Pak has had success at his current Fayetteville location. Last year, it had $1.88 million in food, beer and wine sales, according to the city’s tax records.

In Bentonville, Pak has two other Shoguns. The Shogun Steak House had $1.94 million in food sales in 2005, and Shogun Express, which opened in March last year, had $248,000 in food sales.

Pak’s other investment is starting to take off.

On July 12, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for a new Shogun Steak House off Joyce Boulevard near the Northwest Arkansas Mall in Fayetteville. The 10,800-SF, $2.5 million restaurant will be located on three acres just north of McAlister’s Deli, said Roger Boskus, the architect on the project. It will accommodate about 320 diners.

Construction began this month and should be completed by spring 2007.

“I think it’s one of the best projects I’ve done in my career,” Boskus said. “It’s probably one of nicest restaurants around, and I’ve done quite a few.”

Boskus said the restaurant isn’t the typical Shogun restaurant that Pak currently has and is designed with Fayetteville clientele in mind.

Pak told the Business Journal in April 2005 that the new location will replace the current Fayetteville location at Spring Creek Centre, just down the street, which will likely be converted into a Shogun Express.

Tim’s Pizza Opens Springdale Location

Tim’s Pizza opened a Springdale location in June. The gourmet pizza restaurant has three other locations in Fayetteville, all owned by different people.

The 3,500-SF building at 301 Yaum Drive in Springdale can seat 70 downstairs and 50 upstairs, said Jeri Myers, manager of the restaurant. Tim’s Pizza Springdale has 34 employees, and has the same menu as the other locations.

Tim’s Pizza makes its own dough and sauce, Myers said. It also uses Grande cheese, which is 35 percent more expensive than regular cheese.

The pizzas, which cost between $5 and $16, can take 6-8 minutes to make for a mini-pizza and 16-18 minutes for a large. The restaurant also has sandwiches, ranging from $5 to $7, and salads that range from $3 to $7.

The restaurant also serves beer and wine.

The Springdale location is owned by Mike Stephens, who also owns Tim’s Pizza on North College Avenue in Fayetteville. He bought the restaurant from Mel Cranston in 1993.

Last year, Tim’s Pizza on North College had $604,900 in food, beer and wine sales. Tim’s Pizza on East Mission in Fayetteville had $666,500 in sales last year. Tiny Tim’s on the downtown Fayetteville square had $646,000 in food, beer and wine sales last year.

Another location in the Benton County area is being considered, Myers said, but nothing has been purchased yet.
