News Confused on Ballpark Cost

We followed coverage in the daily papers about the Rev. Ronnie Floyd withdrawing his support for a proposed minor league baseball stadium in Springdale because it may serve beer.

But we really took note when The Morning News reported on its June 21 front page that the park was “a proposed $33 million baseball stadium,” then the following day called the project a “proposed multibillion dollar ballpark” in a Page 1 story.

We’ve heard of $10 words before, but we didn’t know “ballpark” could ratchet a project’s tally up by a multiple of 100.
