Nonfarm payroll in the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers Metropolitan Statistical Area increased 3.3 percent from 190,800 in September 2004 to 197,100 in September 2005, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Government jobs had the biggest increase, 7.5 percent, from 25,400 in September 2004 to 27,300 in September 2005. Most of that came from an increase of 1,600 jobs in local government.
The natural resources and construction segment jumped from 10,200 to 10,900, a 6.9 percent increase year over year.
Leisure and hospitality jobs rose 4.6 percent from 15,100 in September 2004 to 15,800 in September 2005.
Manufacturing lost jobs in Northwest Arkansas.
In September 2005, there were 33,700 jobs, down 0.3 percent from 33,800 for the same month in 2004.
Statewide, manufacturing was hit, with a 1 percent decline from 204,800 to 202,700.
These cities all had declines in manufacturing jobs: Fort Smith (down 100 jobs), Little Rock (down 200 jobs) and Jonesboro (down 200 jobs).
Northwest Arkansas jobs were up compared to the state’s job total.
Arkansas nonfarm payroll jobs were up 1.1 percent from 1,170,900 in September 2004 to 1,183,400 in September 2005.
