Law Firm Employment Jumps by 25 Percent

There were 21 firms employing a total of 164 lawyers on the Business Journal’s annual list of largest law firms. A total of 25 percent more lawyers were employed by those firms compared to the previous year.
However, two firms — Martin Martin & Associates of Springdale and Mitchell Williams Selig Gates & Woodyard in Rogers — were added to this year’s list, and one firm, Ball & Mourton Ltd. of Fayetteville, no longer qualifies to be on the list.
The list is a round-up of law firms in Benton and Washington counties with four or more full-time lawyers on staff.
The top three firms’ ranking would have remained unchanged from year-to-year, but two lawyers from the Bassett Law Firm died Jan. 10 (see Two Bassett Firm Lawyers Die Jan. 10), allowing Davis Wright Clark Butt & Carithers of Fayetteville to ascend to the top spot on our list. Kutak Rock LLP, an Omaha, Neb., firm, rose from No. 7 in 2005 to tie for No. 3 this year.
Ten of the firms have main offices in Fayetteville, six in Rogers, four in Springdale and one in Bentonville. Many lawyers said the trend is for firms to locate in Benton County because of the amount of business taking place there.
