Vegrandis LLC and SFC Fluidics LLC of Fayetteville have joined to develop a laboratory-on-a-chip device that can be used in a doctor’s office to diagnose and monitor a variety of diseases, according to principals at Virtual Incubation Co., whose clients include Vegrandis and SFC Fluidics.

The companies received a Small Business Technology Transfer Phase II award for $1.4 million from the National Institutes of Health to start the development. It is Vegrandis’ seventh STTR and SFC Fluidics’ fourth since they both started in 2002.

The first application will be for the early detection of ovarian cancer.
