Last Goshen Gate

We’ve all heard of “Last Tango in Paris,” but Gary Combs will apparently wind up with the last dance on gated communities in affluent Goshen.

The prominent developer partnered with now deceased rancher Ronnie Hissom on Waterford Estates — the state’s first large-scale conservation subdivision with 50 percent of its 400 acres dedicated to green space.

Waterford Estates offers views of the Arkansas River at $100,000 per lot. The subdivision was recently given formal approval to begin home constructions by the city of Goshen. Then the city banned future gated communities in a town already more full of SUVs and Bimmers than the parking lot at Bentonville High School.

The restrictive communities are a topic of debate because of social and economic burdens they allegedly place on the surrounding area.
