Hannover House Gets Good Release

Fayetteville’s Hannover House, a DVD and media publisher, has two major releases this fall that owner Eric Parkinson said should take his company from famine to feast.

“On Life and Enlightenment” by the Dali Lama is a combination book and DVD offering, which investigates eight different aspects of Tibetan Buddhism. Generally, the Dali Lama’s products are good sellers, Parkinson said.

But Parkinson was more excited about a less-enlightened release. He will ship $20 million worth of interactive DVDs this fall in a release called “Livin’ It Up with the Bratz.” The Bratz franchise is a hot ticket with the “tween” (12- to 14-year-old) demographic, mostly girls, and will be out in time for Christmas.

Parkinson said despite success with a 2003 title, 2004 was not a great year for the company. He’s sure the contrast between the Dali Lama’s spirituality and “tweener” consumerism will give him a nice shot in the arm.
