Bill Locke knows the moving business. With 20 years experience at Mayflower Transit, a full-service moving company, the Fayetteville business owner has just expanded to portable mini-storage.
“I wanted to open up to a different market, and offer a broader spectrum of services,” Locke said.
Locke said he wanted to find a way to service the self-movers of Northwest Arkansas.
The way Go-Minis works is simple: When customers need to move, or to store household items during a renovation or after a fire or other disaster, they just call the company, which delivers a container to the caller’s driveway. Customers pack at their leisure. The containers are made of air- and water-tight metal, and are designed to store household goods. No tarp or additional protection is needed.
Go-Minis will pick up the container and deliver it to a storage facility or to a new site. Go-Minis come in three sizes. Locke said it costs about $300 to use a container for a month.
A roll-back wrecker is used to pick up and deliver the containers. Locke currently has 40 containers in stock.
Go-Minis operates out of the 17,000-SF Mayflower office. One employee works for Go-Minis, but many of the 65 Mayflower employees can also help out if needed.
Locke sees adding up to three or four employees in the near future. He declined to disclose start-up costs.
