Wedding on the Go in Fayetteville

Need a quickie marriage ceremony?

We noticed an unusual sign outside a small white building at 1336 S. School Ave. in Fayetteville. It read: “Roadside Wedding Chapel, 225-1528.”

We called the number, and minister Billy Lehman explained that the chapel is part of his non-denominational Life Giving Church of Truth and Understanding, which operates out of the same building.

“You still have to get your marriage license at the courthouse,” Lehman said, “but a lot of the time, it’s hard to find a minister to do [the ceremony] and sometimes it’s spur-of-the-moment.”

The chapel opened on June 7. Lehman asks for a $75 donation for performing a wedding ceremony, “but it’s whatever a man can afford, so I’m willing to work with them … We’re a non-profit organization.”

If you don’t want to get married at the chapel, Lehman also makes house calls.

So far, he has one wedding scheduled at the chapel and one to be performed at Beaver Lake.
