Our reviewers were a little turned off by the name Buffalo Wild Wings because they were afraid the place would only serve wings.

They missed the “Grill & Bar” part of the name and were pleasantly surprised by the number of offerings on the menu.

There were 12 savory sauce selections, which ranged in heat from “smooth” to “spicy” to “smokin’.” As one diner put it, you can have “chicken, or if you prefer, chicken.” But that’s not entirely true, since BWW does have a limited burger selection.

Our daring duo tried a few appetizer wings at 35 cents each. They were tossed in a choice of sauce, and in the interest of research, the pair tried Teriyaki, Caribbean Jerk, Hot BBQ and Wild. The first three were all very good, with increasing levels of intensity. But the Wild was a true challenge to the heat-eater at the table. One Wild wing sent him into a fit of coughs and eventually to the restroom to wash his lips with water.

He ordered the much milder Sweet BBQ on his BBQ Bacon Chicken sandwich ($6), which is a grilled chicken breast, with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion. It was just O.K., he said.

They also split an order of Buffalo Chips with cheese ($2.79), since the sandwich didn’t come with a side.

The chips weren’t really chips, but a thicker, rounder version of french fries. They weren’t too greasy, which both diners enjoyed.

The female diner tried the Blackened Chicken Caesar Salad ($7).

She was pleased that the lettuce wasn’t overly coated with thick dressing.

The blackened chicken was too salty for her taste, and there were brown wisps of lettuce mixed in with the good stuff.

For dessert, the diners ordered a slice of Deep-Dish Apple Pie ($4). It was really the best part of the meal. Coupled with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, the apple filling and soft streusel crust were heavenly.

All in all, BWW can scratch a snack food itch as an entrée selection.
