Sam?s Club Springdale Slam?

Bob McAdam, vice president for corporate affairs at Wal-Mart Stores Inc., was quoted in the May 17 issue of the Northwest Arkansas Times saying if Wal-Mart was going to show a Sam’s Club off to international visitors, “we’re not bringing them to Springdale.”

McAdam told the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal that he was referring to the 20-year-old Sam’s Club in Springdale, not the city itself. Wal-Mart has a new design for its Sam’s Club wholesale stores, so showing off the old one wouldn’t be appropriate.

“The quote is about the architecture of the Springdale club,” he said. “We’re not building stores that look like that now.”

Wal-Mart plans to build new Sam’s Club stores in Fayetteville and Bentonville.
