Hog Haus Brewing Co. Gets 4 1/2 Stars (Business Lunch)

It looks pretty much the same, but the newly renovated Hog Haus Brewing Co. has better food than its predecessor, Ozark Brewing Co. At least that’s what we thought after a recent trip there for lunch.

Two Business Journal staffers took advantage of an exceptionally spectacular spring day and walked over from their now old offices to the revamped version of the Dickson Street hangout.

The “special lunch features” menu, which changes periodically, had some eclectic items, like Thai green curry, chef’s choice sushi of the day and Baja fish tacos, to name a few.

One diner at our table couldn’t resist the fish tacos ($7.50), which consisted of three tortillas filled with crispy fried whitefish, slaw, a tangy dressing and a dash of hot sauce.

He said the tacos were as good as fish tacos he’d had in San Diego, where they’re a popular item at Mexican restaurants. The brew pub’s version included large chunks of fish with just enough tang to make it interesting.

Another diner ordered the Dickson Street Hogwood ($8), a sandwich with a wild combination of ham, turkey, roast beef and Muenster cheese all slathered in a slightly spicy chipotle chile-flavored mayonnaise. The hoagie-wrapped sandwich came with a choice of sides, and he picked the sweet potato fries.

The Hogwood was excellent, he said, with what appeared to be choice cuts of the meats. If anything, it was large enough to make him feel better about the price, which was a tad steep for his taste.

The fries were covered in a crunchy texture of light sugar and salt and were the perfect complement the sandwich, he said.

For dessert, the two diners at our table split a chocolate cobbler sundae ($5.25). A giant scoop of vanilla ice cream was perched atop a chocolate brownie that was surrounded with hot fudge sauce.

For the chocoholic in our group, it was the highlight of the meal. He said it was one of the best chocolate desserts he’s had in Fayetteville.
