Dickson Street Tavern Might Be For Sale

An online business brokerage lists a tavern/pool hall in Northwest Arkansas for sale for $1.5 million. According to the listing, the business was established in 1947 and it has annual revenue of nearly $494,0000. It is described by the sellers as a “unique, well-known tavern with long-standing history and loyal clientele … Last of a kind in this area.”

We called Sunbelt Business Brokers, which listed the entity, but the Fayetteville brokerage declined to name the tavern citing confidentiality agreements.

So using the process of elimination for “well known” taverns/bars that meet the above description, we came up with three Fayetteville possibilities.

George’s Majestic Lounge was established in 1927, and Maxine’s Tap Room was established in 1950. The owners of each said those businesses are not for sale.

Rogers Tavern & Recreation, known as Rogers Rec, on historic Dickson Street was established in 1947, according to a July 2004 article in the Northwest Arkansas Times that quoted Roger’s Rec owner Roger “Swifty” Reynolds.

A September Web blog entry on the site for the Arkansas Times, the Little Rock alternative weekly tabloid, also intimated that a similar clandestine brokerage listing was offering Rogers’ Rec for sale.

Reynolds could not be reached for comment, but given the circumstantial evidence we went ahead and did a little digging at the Washington County Assessor’s office.

The 3,360-SF Roger’s Rec building appraised in 2004 for $152,400.
