Tamara Vanderhoof has started a unique business that offers some alternative approaches to relaxation, stress-relief and mind-body harmony.
The Turning Point offers a variety of services including temporary henna tattoos and Jin Shin Jyutsu, an ancient form of touch massage that has more to do with stress relief than muscle manipulation.
Vanderhoof said Jin Shin is “an ancient art of harmonizing the life energy in the body.” She called it “a complement to healing” that involves touching specific areas of the body thought to be “energy locks” where stress and other bodily poisons can stagnate.
The Turning Point will hold an open house April 2-3, and Vanderhoof invites anyone interested or curious to stop by and see what Jin Shin and henna tattoos are about. She’s also inviting other alternative practitioners in to offer their services through The Turning Point.
Before opening The Turning Point, Vanderhoof had a small shop in Deer and traveled all over the country doing henna tattooing and Jin Shin at fairs and other events. She had much of her equipment before opening The Turning Point, but invested several thousand dollars to lease and improve the building. She has no employees and said she’s already getting a return on her investment.
“It’s pleasantly carrying itself,” she noted.
