Dick Weaver has been dealing in real estate for more than 30 years, starting his own firm in Denver, Colo., years ago. But Weaver has also had an interest in Northwest Arkansas for a long time — his wife is from the area.

Weaver opened a real estate office under his name about a year ago in Bentonville and has since hired 10 agents, including two he brought with him from Colorado.

Scott McNeilly and Jeffrey Phelps are both glad they made the move and are pleased with the progress the agency has made already. McNeilly credits unique and diverse services the firm is offering for the strong start it had the first year. The agency offers an in-house lending service through CDC Financial Group of Denver that is more flexible than other mainstream mortgage lenders, and the realtors are more like “real estate counselors” than agents, he said.

“We’re really out to meet their needs,” he said, explaining that agents try to get a good feel for the potential buyer’s needs before taking them to see properties.

Phelps pointed out that the agency also offers a unique service to property owners — the “talking house.” He said the technology provides a radio frequency that is listed on a sign at the property. Tuning in the frequency, listeners get a rundown on the home and/or property’s features.

In addition to residential real estate, the firm handles commercial properties and new construction.

Weaver said he may hire as many as five additional agents in the next year. The firm also employs a land developer, a loan officer and support staff.

Weaver purchased the 2,800 SF office for the agency, but declined to say what he invested to start. He said it was a personal investment and he expects to see a profit within the next year.
